Nigerian entrepreneur, Izu Okafor and co-founder of Julob Entertainment has made his debut as a movie producer. The Imo State-born filmmaker shared the news on his Instagram page recently while hinting they have been working on the project for a couple of weeks now.
DINOBI, the movie was produced by Izu Okafor, co-produced by Igbo Stanford Onyemaizuchi, and directed by DaVinchi Samuel-Uche.
DaVinchi Samuel-Uche is popular for working on movies like Nze Secret, Muntu, Greenlight, Elozonam, The Mechanic, Don’t Leave Me, Black Wedding, and Zikora.
The movie tells the story of Dinobi, a young Nigerian student played by Nonso Richard Odimega in his early 20s and his struggle through life, surviving an abusive stepmother who was played by Sonia Ogene, and a UK-based medical doctor dad, Dr. Christopher who was played by Chuma Mmeka.
He would eventually scale through, thanks to his love interest, Kemi who was played by Precious Declan, and his lecturer, who was played by Dr. Gloria Ernest-Samuel.
Dinobi will do menial jobs, participate in competitions, get arrested, and eventually make you see life through other lenses.
The movie was written by Igbo Clifford Chimaizuobi and Nwaru Favour.
While speaking on the movie, the producer Izu Okafor said he wasn’t scared of making a debut as a producer, he however didn’t know what to expect and has learned a lot on what the industry is about.
‘Dinobi is my first production. We got the story in 2021 and have been working on other projects since then.
The Imo International Film Festival is coming soon and as an Imo born, I decided we should have a feature movie that was shot and produced in Imo State.
It wasn’t easy, pre-production, production, and post-production took several months and of course, as a debut producer, I didn’t know exactly what to expect.
We did it for you, for us, and for everyone else! Huge thanks to the cast, crew, investors, and everyone who supported this project in any way.
Dinobi is coming to your screens in the next few weeks!’
It is expected to premiere in the Havana Cinema, Owerri on the 30th of June, 2023.
